BOWLING GREEN - An organization that supports downtown businesses and historic preservation is no longer affiliated with the Ohio Main Street Program, officials announced yesterday.
Barbara Ruland, executive director of Main Street Bowling Green, said the organization's board of trustees decided to maximize its limited resources by dropping its membership in the statewide program, which is overseen by Heritage Ohio.
"We still believe in the mission. It's not about that at all," Ms. Ruland said. "It's about overhead and things like that. With the economy what it is, we have to try to get as lean as possible."
Downtown Bowling Green, as the organization now will be known, plans to continue to promote the downtown and its businesses, preserve the community's heritage, and maintain the landscaping and sidewalks downtown.
