North Baltimore board asks input on school funding

1/6/2009

NORTH BALTIMORE, Ohio Before deciding what kind of tax issue to put on the May ballot, the North Baltimore school board wants to hear from the public.

A public forum has been set for 7 p.m. tomorrow in the high school auditorium.

Residents can bring their ideas about how the district ought to pay for a proposed construction project.

In November, North Baltimore voters rejected a 28-year, 7.44-mill bond issue and a 25-year, 0.25 percent income tax that would have paid the local share of a new high school-middle school and renovations at the elementary school.

The Ohio School Facilities Commission would have picked up 59 percent of the $20 million project.

Superintendent Kyle Clark said a new law would allow the board to seek funding for part, rather than all, of the building project, which is one option he will be outlining at tomorrow s meeting.
