Trucker hurt in 3-rig crash on interstate

1/15/2009

A chain-reaction crash of three tractor-trailer rigs on snow-slickened I-75 in North Toledo trapped one driver for more than 45 minutes and snarled traffic for hours.

The semis collided about 5:25 p.m. on southbound I-75 near Ottawa River Road, the result apparently of a motorist changing lanes in front of one of the rigs, authorities said.

The driver of the middle rig was trapped inside upon impact. He was freed about 6:15 p.m. and taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

His name and condition were not available last night.
