Pedestrian, 78, injured fatally in Defiance

DEFIANCE A 78-year-old pedestrian died Saturday after being struck by a sport utility vehicle while trying to cross Defiance County Road 424 in Richland Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Richard Demuth, of Defiance, was taken by helicopter to Toledo Hospital where he was pronounced dead later that day, a hospital spokesman said.

The incident occurred at 3:05 p.m. near the victim s house in the 26500 block of County Road 424. He was hit by a westbound SUV driven by Theresa Rosebrock, 48, of Defiance, troopers from the patrol s Defiance post said.

The incident remains under investigation.
