Help available for earned tax credits

1/30/2009

Free tax assistance is being offered to working families at more than 11 sites in Lucas County, the Greater Toledo CASH Coalition announced yesterday.

Volunteers at the sites will encourage families who qualify to apply for the earned income tax credit, which can be worth up to $4,824.

Officials say as many as a quarter of U.S. residents who are eligible for the credits do not apply for them. The maximum eligible income for a married couple with two or more children is $41,646.

The coalition is a partnership of county officials, banks, credit unions, and nonprofit organizations.
