Oregon schools, driver sued over student death

The father of a boy killed in October when he was hit by an Oregon City Schools bus has filed suit in Lucas County Common Pleas Court against the school district and the driver.

Louis Takacs filed the lawsuit late Friday, alleging that Rita Grivanos was negligent Oct. 22 when she driving a bus that struck and killed 11-year-old Austin Takacs.

Austin, a sixth-grader at Eisenhower Middle School, died after he was struck by the rear tires of the bus at Cardinal Bay Drive and Warner Way, just a couple of blocks from his house. He had been running to catch the bus as it pulled away from the curb, tripped, and fell into the street, authorities said. No criminal charges were filed against Ms. Grivanos.

The suit asks for a $2 million judgment against both defendants, plus $16,756 for medical and funeral expenses.
