LUCKEY - Two people were taken by air ambulance to a Toledo hospital after a ladder truck from a Lima-area fire department collided with a pickup and overturned at U.S. 20 and Luckey Road in Wood County's Troy Township, authorities said.

The fire truck, driven by Dick A. Oder, 58, of Lima, was westbound on U.S. 20 shortly before 1:30 p.m. when the accident occurred, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

It struck a Ford pickup that ran a stop sign on northbound Luckey, troopers from the Bowling Green post said.

The fire truck went off the north side of U.S. 20 and overturned. Mr. Oder and the driver of the pickup, Victoria M. Baker, 42, of Luckey, were flown to the University of Toledo Medical Center, formerly the Medical College of Ohio.

Their conditions were not available late Friday night.

The 1990 Grumman ladder truck, from the Shawnee Township Fire Department, was re-turning to its home community southwest of Lima after being serviced in Wood County, Shawnee Township Fire Capt. John Norris said.

Mr. Oder is a full-time fireman/emergency medical technician who has been with the Shawnee Township department for 24 years, Captain Norris added.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged and towed from the scene, troopers said. U.S. 20 was closed for several hours.

The accident remains under investigation.
