Konop wants probe into killing of dog by deputy dog warden

Lucas County Commissioner Ben Konop called for an investigation Monday regarding the killing of a 10-pound dog in Point Place earlier this month by a deputy Lucas County dog warden.

One of the questions I have is if it is proper to shoot a tranquilizer dart at a 10-pound dog, Mr. Konop said.

He said he decided to investigate the matter after receiving nearly two dozen e-mail complaints.

Chad Snyder, of 2500 110th St., said his family dog named Princess was killed Feb. 10.

My dog was literally cornered on my own porch, Mr. Snyder said. I think they viciously executed a non-vicious dog.

He said the two-year-old dog was a gift two years ago for his daughter, who is now 4.

The dog, a Pomeranian beagle mix that was unlicensed, escaped from the Snyder home when a back door blew open, Mr. Snyder said.

Lucas County Dog Warden Tom Skeldon could not be reached for comment Monday morning.

Mr. Konop said he wants a yet-to-be formed dog warden advisory panel to review the incident.
