Job-creation tax credits OK d for 2 Toledo area projects

The Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved job creation tax credits Monday for two plant expansions in northwest Ohio.

Smucker Bakery Manufacturing Inc., on Laskey Road in Toledo, was awarded a 40 percent credit for six years for a $7.6 million project that will create 25 jobs paying $21.60 an hour. The plant makes Pillsbury dessert mixes and frosting, Hungry Jack pancake mixes, Eagle brand desserts, and White Lily flour. The project also is to retain 190 workers.

Curwood Inc., Fremont, received a 40 percent credit for five years for a $10.5 million project that will create 35 jobs paying $15.47 an hour. It manufactures packaging materials for the food, beverage, household, and personal care industries. The project also is to retain 154 workers.

Separately Monday, the state Controlling Board approved a $250,000 grant for Whirlpool Corp., which is undertaking an $11 million project to expand its Findlay dishwasher-making plant and to buy machinery. The project is expected to create 263 jobs and retain 1,700.
