A Toledo father convicted of attempting to murder his 3-year-old daughter by asphyxiation was sentenced in Lucas County Common Pleas Court Wednesday to nine years in prison.

Thomas Bragg, 46, of 4129 Willys Pkwy., pleaded no contest last month to one count of attempt to commit murder. Prior to receiving his sentence, Bragg told Judge Linda Jennings that he has battled with depression and that he loves his wife and daughter and looks forward to being in their lives again.

A visibly shaken Trista Bragg said both during the hearing and after that her husband is a "coward" who tried to take their child s life by creating a death chamber in the car.

Bragg was convicted of attempting to asphyxiate his young daughter by attaching a hose from the vehicle s exhaust pipe to the interior of the car with a host positioned just inches from the girl s face.
