City to offer 3 sizes of refuse containers

The Finkbeiner administration yesterday assured Toledoans the city would offer three different sized refuse containers for the planned switch to automated garbage trucks.

City Council decided Tuesday to spend $9.67 million to buy about 200,000 refuse containers two for every household. One will be for trash and the other for recyclable materials.

Mayor Finkbeiner said the change to automated pickup will save Toledo millions of dollars every year since each truck will require a single driver rather than a three-man crew. The city plans to provide each household with two carts sized 96, 64, or 48 gallons, which can be lifted by a refuse truck equipped with an automated arm.
