A Springfield Township man who barricaded himself in his home during a March 10 standoff with authorities appeared in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to face criminal charges.

Michael Swiergosz, 46, of 111 Hidden Meadow Drive, pleaded not guilty Monday to two counts of felonious assault. He faces up to 16 years in prison if convicted. Judge Denise Ann Dartt set a June 10 trial date.

Sheriff s deputies were sent to Mr. Swiergosz s home on a report of domestic violence and shots fired. Authorities said Mr. Swiergosz had fired two shots before they arrived one into the ground and one into the air. He eventually surrendered peacefully.

The incident is believed to have been sparked by financial concerns. Mr. Swiergosz s home had been scheduled for sheriff s sale.
