Warrant issued in teen slaying

Timothy Quinney is suspected of shooting a high-powered automatic weapon into a large crowd gathered after a house party late Saturday, killing one teenager and severely injuring another, Toledo police said Monday.

Police issued a warrant Monday for the 21-year-old Toledoan charging him with murder. He is accused of killing Olajuwon Mobley, 18, of 243 Moss St., who was pronounced dead at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where he was taken shortly after the 11:30 p.m. shooting.

Authorities said he was shot at least once in the head.

A second victim, a 16-year-old Toledoan, was treated for a gunshot wound to the chest and arm and is expected to survive. Police have not released his name.

Investigators said the incident occurred just after a house party broke up at a home on Indiana Avenue where several fights started. The two victims were among a group who began walking north on Forest Avenue.

The shooting, which is believed to be gang-related, occurred at Pinewood and Forest avenues.

"There was a disturbance of some sort at the party. Everyone pretty much left," Detective Jeff Clark said yesterday. "At some point there was another group that was coming in the opposition direction at which time the shooter took out a gun and shot into the crowd."

Police said Quinney is the only suspect wanted in connection with the shooting. As of yesterday, he had not been arrested.

Quinney, who police said has no permanent address, had served 10 months in prison in October, 2007, after being convicted of assault. According to court records, Quinney was being booked in the Lucas County jail on Sept. 17, 2007, when he attempted to cause "physical harm" to an "employee of the local correctional facility." A second charge of harassment with a bodily substance was dismissed.
