Detectives honored for cybercrime work in city

Toledo police detectives Jim Dec and Dave Morford were cited by the U.S. Secret Service yesterday for their work in the department's Computer Crimes Unit.

The detectives were involved in an investigation that resulted in the federal conviction of a Toledo man for child pornography. Keven McIntyre, 32, of 3575 Stickney Ave., was sentenced last month in U.S. District Court in Toledo to 20 years in prison.

Police Chief Mike Navarre said the unit was excluded from any budget cutbacks, noting that cybercrime continues to escalate. The unit is responsible for the forensic examination of all digital media.

The detectives were presented plaques by Peter Piraino, resident agent in charge of the Secret Service's Toledo office. Plaques were also given yesterday to Deputy U.S. Marshal Chris Hodge and Lucas County sheriff's Detective Dave Carter for their work on the case.

Toledo police Capt. Ray Carroll lauded the men's efforts, saying the work they do is "trying, both emotionally and mentally" because often it deals with cases of child pornography.

Both detectives have been with the police department for 14 years, with three of those years in the computer crimes section.
