Toledo police have released the name of the female driver of a car that earlier this week plunged off of the second floor of a parking garage at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Betty Hinton, 71, of West Toledo, was released after treatment at the hospital later in the day, a hospital spokesman said.

Ms. Hinton was pulling into a parking space on the second floor about 10:30 a.m. when she hit the gas instead of the brakes, causing the car to drive through a barrier and fall to the ground. The vehicle landed on its roof by the garage, trapping the driver, police said.

She was extricated from the car within about 15 minutes, according to Toledo Deputy Fire Chief Phil Cervantes.

The incident remained under investigation. There was no word on the charges.
