MONROE Northbound I-75 reopened to traffic about 10:55 p.m. Wednesday, nearly two hours after Michigan State Police directed vehicles off the interstate in response to reports of a man in a vehicle threatening suicide at the rest area.

Authorities said no one was injured in the incident, and traffic was restored after it became clear the man would not carry out his threat.

The diversion began about 9 p.m. and caused a traffic backup on I-75 of several miles, authorities said.

Authorities did not report how the man said he would commit suicide or whether he had a weapon.
