Pay cuts, more layoffs announced in Tiffin

4/29/2009

TIFFIN As promised, Tiffin Mayor Jim Boroff this week unveiled a second round of budget cuts, including layoffs of three police officers and four firefighters.

Mr. Boroff, who last week announced a number of cuts including the layoff of a police officer, said the next round takes effect May 17.

Pay will be cut 7 percent for department heads and fiduciary employees; seasonal grounds employees have been laid off; a police clerk is to be laid off effective June 6; a public works employee and a water pollution control employee will be laid off, and two part-time employees were terminated.

If the economy rebounds soon, these emergency adjustments may be short-lived, the mayor said in a letter to city employees.
