Man indicted in standoff, kidnap case

A Springfield Township man who held his estranged wife captive for hours during an April 28 standoff with police at an Ottawa Hills retirement village was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury Friday on several felony charges.

Michael Swiergosz, 46, whose address is listed as 615 Scenic Circle, was charged with three counts of kidnapping, one count of felonious assault, two counts of rape, one count of aggravated burglary, and one count of intimidation of a crime victim or witness, all with gun specifications.

He also was charged with one count of having a weapon while under indictment for a felony.

If convicted on all charges, he faces up to 81 years in prison.

He is in custody in the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $2.5 million bond.
