Area tourism leaders to confer at Toledo Zoo

5/11/2009

More than 100 tourism industry representatives are to gather at the Toledo Zoo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday for a special conference sponsored by the Lucas County commissioners.

The event, part of National Tourism Week, will feature a discussion by Pete Gerken, president of the board of commissioners, of tourism s impact on the region.

Two honors will be given: a tourism impact award to the individual or organization that contributes to the area s tourism success, and a hospitality employee of the year award to the individual whose efforts insure that visitors to the Toledo area have a great experience.

The zoo is offering free admission from 10 a.m. to noon to all Lucas County residents.

Noncounty residents can enter the zoo free at that time by mentioning National Tourism Week.

Several tourism exhibits featuring ways to vacation nearby will be open in the zoo s main plaza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sixty-five booths will offer information about area attractions, shopping, dining, and recreation.
