Truck hits turnpike tollbooth

5/11/2009

EDON, Ohio - A truck crashed into a tollbooth and another vehicle at the Ohio Turnpike's westernmost toll plaza Sunday evening, injuring two people in the second vehicle, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Details about how the 7:55 p.m. crash occurred were incomplete at press time.

Westbound traffic was restricted to a single lane at the Westgate plaza because of wreckage from the crash.

Troopers said the truck driver had been reported to be driving erratically before the crash and is believed to have had a medical problem.

A toll collector in the booth that was struck was able to climb out a window and was not injured, troopers said.

The two people in the other vehicle were both described as having moderate injuries, troopers said.

Their names and conditions were not immediately released.
