Man struck and killed by train in Springfield Twp.

Authorities have identified the man who was struck and killed by a train early Saturday in Springfield Township as Robert F. Northington II of Toledo.

Mr. Northington, 30, of 5702 Angola Rd., was pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers at the Toledo post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

The death was a suicide, according to Lucas County Deputy Coroner Dr. Diane Barnett.

The incident occurred about 4:45 a.m. at a Norfolk Southern railroad crossing on Holland-Sylvania Road near Angola Road.

Mr. Northington was standing on the railroad tracks at the crossing when he was struck by a westbound freight train, troopers said.

After the incident, the train stopped and blocked traffic until about 7:30 a.m.
