Recount set in race for Findlay judgeship

5/20/2009

FINDLAY Findlay lawyer Jonathan P. Starn still is leading the race for a Findlay Municipal Court judgeship, but a recount has been scheduled.

The Hancock County Board of Elections this week certified the results of the May 5 Republican primary, which left the top two vote-getters Mr. Starn and Donald J. Rasmussen within 16 votes of each other. Elections Director Jody O Brien said an automatic recount will be May 28.

With provisional and absentee votes counted, Mr. Starn received 2,569 votes; Mr. Rasmussen received 2,553, Kelton Smith received 1,466, and Garth Brown received 1,166.

The winner will be on the ballot in November to replace Judge Kevin Smith, who did not seek a third six-year term. No Democrats ran for the position.
