The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a woman from the Maumee River in downtown Toledo on Thursday morning after her sculling boat hit a buoy near the International Park, authorities said.

The woman, whose name was not released, was unhurt. She was taken to an area hospital for evaluation, according to the Coast Guard.

A Coast Guard boat arrived about 9 a.m. and took the woman to safety after she spent about 5 minutes in the water, officers said.

The woman was about 50 yards from the East Toledo riverbank when her boat hit the buoy, causing her to lose her balance and fall into the water, said officers who took part in the water rescue.
