Emergency levy sought by Pike-Delta-York

DELTA, Ohio - Pike-Delta-York Local Schools will go back to district voters in August for an emergency property levy request following the May 6 defeat of an income-tax proposal.

The school board voted last week to request a five-year $900,000 levy that would collect 6 mills from property in the school district. District officials say they need the money to offset revenue lost because the state of Ohio phased out its tax on business and industrial machinery and equipment.

The $900,000 figure is the same amount officials had expected to receive from a half-percent earned-income tax that district voters rejected by a ratio of more than 2 to 1 at the polls this month.
