Toledoan 2nd man chased by police in Ottawa Hills

A 35-year-old Toledo man was the second man involved in a short police chase in Ottawa Hills early Saturday that ended with a Maumee man being shot by an officer, the Attorney General's Office said Tuesday.

Aaron A. Snyder is charged with failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer; operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated; driving under suspension, and a stop-sign violation. He remains free on a $500 bond pending an arraignment in Toledo Municipal Court Thursday.

Mr. Snyder could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.

No other information was released Tuesday about the incident that resulted in the shooting of Mike McCloskey of Maumee. Mr. McCloskey was shot early Saturday after a short chase in the village.

Mr. McCloskey was last listed in serious condition Sunday night at Toledo Hospital. A hospital spokesman said Tuesday that no information was available about someone by that name.

Ottawa Hills police have refused to release both the name of the officer involved and the reason for the shooting. The department has referred all inquiries to the Attorney General's Office.

The Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation is investigating the incident, confirmed Holly Hollingsworth, an attorney general's spokesman. She said no other information was available yesterday, including a confirmation that Mr. McCloskey was involved.

His family has confirmed he was shot.

"Due to the continuing investigation, this is all we can release publicly at this point," she said.

Police chased the two motorcyclists at about 2:15 a.m. on Indian Road when one drove through a grass island at Central Avenue and stopped across the street in the westbound lane of the street.

While he was being arrested, Mr. McCloskey was stopped on Indian at Central, where he was shot by an officer, authorities said.

Police also would not say yesterday why the motorcyclists were being chased or if they had weapons.

The Ottawa Hills police department has 20 employees, including 11 full-time officers.
