Ex-city worker released early in felony DUI case

5/30/2009

A former Toledo city employee who has been convicted of multiple drunken-driving offenses including one on city time was released early from prison Friday after serving two months in drug treatment and three months behind bars.

Gary Groszewski, 52, was granted judicial release yesterday by Lucas County Common Pleas Court Judge James Jensen. He was found guilty in November, 2007, of felony drunken driving on city time.

In January, a year after portions of his sentence were postponed until an appeal in the case was decided, Groszewski admitted to violating his community control when he tested positive for smoking marijuana. Judge Jensen imposed his original sentence of time in a drug treatment center as well as 30 months in prison for the violation.

Groszewski s Dec. 7, 2006, arrest for drunken driving was the 14th time he had been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
