A Toledo man accused of punching an 88-year-old man and stealing his wallet was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury Tuesday.

Edgar Howard, 47, of 222 Austin St., was indicted on one count each of robbery, aggravated burglary, and felonious assault. He remains in custody in the Lucas County jail and could be sentenced to up to 26 years in prison if convicted.

Authorities said the victim, L.T. Maddox, suffered a broken nose and broken jaw.

Mr. Maddox was standing on the front porch of his house in the 1000 block of Indiana Avenue about 3:45 p.m. May 26 when a man walked up to him and asked to borrow a phone book. Mr. Maddox asked the man to wait outside and headed for the front door to get it.

As Mr. Maddox was coming to the door, the man entered the house, struck the victim, and took his wallet, police said.
