Perrysburg OKs raises for service employees

6/17/2009

Perrysburg City Council last night unanimously approved a new three-year contract with its service employees that grants raises in the first two years.

The new pact with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3906 calls for a 2 percent raise this year, a 1.75 percent raise in 2010, and a wage reopener in 2011. It covers about 55 employees in the streets, parks, refuse, and water divisions as well as some clerical workers.

The raises are lower than what the city s three police unions received, although council members said police wages were below average compared to what police in surrounding communities are paid. Talks with firefighters, who had sought the same raises police received, are headed to arbitration after council rejected a fact-finder s report June 2.
