A contractor Monday afternoon is digging up the street in downtown Toledo to repair a water line serving the Toledo Edison building’s sprinkler system, a spokesman said.

Water has been restored to the building, 300 Madison Ave., and there was no need to shut down the building because of the break in the line, said Meg Adams, spokesman.

The downtown intersection of St. Clair Street and Madison Avenue, closed early Monday morning when water flooded the roadway, remains shutdown. Water pressure buckled a portion of the roadway.

The break occurred about 5:30 a.m., said the spokesman who did not know how much repairs would cost. She said she did not know what caused the line to rupture.
