Toledo was not named - for what would have been its fourth selection - as an All-America City Friday night in Tampa. The National Civic League bestowed the title of All-America City upon 10 cities from across the country, but Toledo, one of 32 finalists, was not among them.

At first, Barbie Harrison thought it was a small and relatively benign blaze in her attic that firefighters were battling. Maybe just a little smoke and water damage, she thought. Yet the flames and smoke kept growing. Then, during an odd lull in the action about 45 minutes into the firefighters effort, Mrs. Harrison realized that she and her husband, Herman, could actually lose the 84-year-old house in Toledo s historic Westmoreland neighborhood where they had reared three children and which they had called home for 30 years.

The University of Toledo is advancing its plan to have a businessman lead the college of education. Tom Brady, the chief executive officer and founder of Plastic Technologies, Inc. in Springfield Township, will serve as the interim dean of the Judith Herb college of education. The appointment is contingent on approval by the UT board of trustees, which meets Monday.

Two New Mexico men have been arrested here for trafficking marijuana into Ohio and unsuccessfully trying to dump the drugs from an airplane, the Huron County Sheriff s Office said. Ryan C. Thomas, 47, of Albuquerque and Greg J. Baca, 47, of Los Alamos are each charged with one count of trafficking marijuana, a second degree felony. Both are being held on $100,000 bonds and have a preliminary hearing scheduled for Friday in Norwalk Municipal Court.

An Edgerton, Ohio, boy drowned in a pond at the corner of Openlander and Buckskin roads about 15 miles west of Defiance Saturday afternoon, the Defiance County Sheriff's Office said. The body of Jack Martenies, 10, was pulled from the pond by sheriff's divers at about 5:03 p.m. He was pronounced dead at Defiance Regional Medical Center a short time later.

Walking into the 72nd annual Holland Strawberry Festival, you have to wonder: Where are all the strawberries? "That's what we were wondering, too," two teenage girls working at a pizza stand said. "We think they're somewhere in the back." It's easy to find the amusement-park-style rides, the funnel cakes, and the "COLOSSAL" onion rings right at the entrance to the festival from the parking lot, but the strawberries aren't front and center.

Worry nags Jay LeFevre as he stands in every father's shoes, watching his daughter ride down the driveway and out of sight. But this daughter isn't a child heading off solo on her bicycle for the first time. She's 17 and fragile - in the early stages of recovery from an automobile accident that nearly took her life just two months before this evening out with her boyfriend.
