Man charged in shootings enters plea of insanity

A man charged with shooting at his estranged wife and then leading authorities on a chase down Angola Road entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity in Lucas County Common Pleas Court yesterday.

Victor Saenz, 38, of 3217 Glanzman Rd. is charged with four counts of improperly discharging a firearm, each with a gun specification; five counts each of felonious assault and attempt to commit murder, all with firearm specifications, and one count of felonious assault. If convicted, he could get 130 years in prison.

He was arrested June 18, the day after he allegedly shot at his estranged wife and at a sheriff s sergeant who was trying to arrest him.

Toledo police said the man shot at his estranged wife at her South Toledo home and during the brief chase on Angola Road that ended in Springfield Township when he rammed her car. He shot at the sergeant at the scene of the crash, police said.

The suspect was shocked with a Taser and taken into custody.

He appeared before Judge Gary Cook yesterday to enter his plea. He was referred to the Court Diagnostic & Treatment Center for an evaluation.
