Sylvania Township bank burglarized

Several men burglarized a Fifth Third Bank branch in Sylvania Township early Monday, authorities said.

The men broke into the bank at 7536 Central Ave. about 3:30 a.m., took a safe, and fled with it, according to Sylvania Township police.

Sylvania Township police said Monday that when officers arrived at the bank they observed a minivan fleeing from the scene. After a short pursuit the driver stopped and fled the van, running through a wooded residential area off Centennial Avenue near Hill Avenue. He was not captured, but police recovered the safe.

Police say they believe the driver let others involved in the robbery out of the van before he stopped and fled.
