Lots of food and loud music - all topped off with a ton of commercial-grade fireworks exploding in downtown Toledo over the Maumee River made a five-hour wait worth it for Stacy Clark and her two eager sons. The family, which boated from Ottawa County to see Toledo's fireworks show Saturday night, docked and staked out a spot with a perfect view.


Walt Disney World says a monorail at the Florida theme park is out of service after an employee death. The Reedy Creek Fire Department tells Orlando television station WESH that two monorails collided around 2 a.m. Sunday, killing the operator of one of the trains. The station says no guests were seriously injured.

Police are investigating the beating of a man who is in critical condition Sunday at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. Darrell White was found beaten and unconscious underneath the Winchester Street bridge in Monroe on Friday, Monroe police said.

Two people injured in separate car crashes last weekend have died in regional hospitals. Judith Ekquist, 51, of Clinton, Mich., who was hit by a car while in her driveway on June 28, died Thursday in University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor. Anthony Messenger, 41, of Forest, Ohio, died Wednesday in St. Rita's Hospital in Lima of injuries suffered when his car hit a tree near Findlay on June 27.

Michael McCloskey is paralyzed, the result of a May traffic stop in Ottawa Hills that ended with a village police officer shooting him in the back, the bullet severing his spine. The officer, Thomas Caine White, 27, was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury last week and was charged with one count of felonious assault with a gun specification. Ottawa Hills is facing a different kind of charge - a potentially very expensive one - with a civil lawsuit already filed by Mr. McCloskey's lawyer against the affluent Toledo suburb.

A party scheduled for today that will bring together the nine children of James and Mary Kohler has taken on a new significance after an attack on their parents. What was planned as a 50th birthday party for Matt Kohler will instead serve as a chance for his mother, 76-year-old Mary, to reunite with her children and many of the couple's 17 grandchildren after she was hospitalized to recuperate from injuries she suffered in the assault early Thursday.

A motorcyclist was injured in a crash early Saturday on Maple Avenue north of State Route 101 in Margaretta Township, Erie County. Edward R. Hallier, 44, of 5820 Tiffin Ave., Castalia, Ohio, was in fair condition after the crash in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo where he was flown from Bellevue Hospital, according to the Sandusky Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol. Troopers said they learned at 1:44 a.m. that an injured man was dropped off at Bellevue Hospital by family members.

Four boaters were found yesterday evening clinging to their capsized boat in Lake Erie near Middle Sister Island, nearly 20 hours after they were reported missing, the U.S. Coast Guard said. After an extensive search involving as many as a dozen vessels and helicopters scouring the lake's entire western basin, Monroe County Sheriff's deputies located the capsized vessel and found the men in the water about 5:45 p.m.
