Authorities have released the identity of a man who was struck and killed by a Norfolk Southern train in South Toledo.

Thomas Dalton, 62, of the 2000 block of Airport Highway, was identified Tuesday by a family member, said Steve Kahle, an investigator for the Lucas County Coroner's Office.

Mr. Dalton was pronounced dead at the scene. He was sitting on the tracks about 1:30 a.m. Monday about 100 yards west of Wenz Road, when the train approached, Toledo police said.

The engineer saw him and blew the train's horn, but the man did not move, officers said.

"All indications are that it is a suicide," Mr. Kahle said. "The train engineer blew a [train] whistle and saw the man look up without getting off the tracks."
