An unidentified man was struck and killed by a Norfolk Southern train in South Toledo Monday, authorities said.

Dr. James D. Patrick, Lucas County coroner, said an identification had not been made as of Monday night. He said he was hopeful one could be made following an autopsy Tuesday.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was sitting on the tracks about 1:30 a.m. near Wenz Road, when the train approached. The engineer saw him and blew the train's emergency horn, but the man did not move, police said.
