Toledo mayor to tell House about census

7/9/2009

Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner will testify today before a U.S. House subcommittee on the necessity of an accurate census count and the federal grant allocation formula.

The mayor said he will appear at the request of William "Lacy" Clay, Jr., (D., Mo.), chairman of the Information Policy, Census, National Archives Subcommittee.

The mayor said he plans to speak about his experience as a census leader in 1970 and his efforts to ensure an accurate census count for Toledo, including the city's partnership with Social Compact Inc.

Mr. Finkbeiner led a successful drive to get last summer's 2007 estimate readjusted upward by 21,822 people.
