Bowling Green repeals residency rule for staff

7/14/2009

BOWLING GREEN Last month the Ohio Supreme Court said cities could no longer require municipal employees to live within their boundaries.

Yesterday, Bowling Green s civil service commission voted 3-0 to rescind the city s policy that required most city employees to live in Wood County. Department and division heads were required to live in the city.

Personnel Director Barbara Ford said that although the residency rule remained on Bowling Green s books, the city had not enforced it since 2006, when a new state law invalidated city residency requirements. In June, the high court upheld the 2006 law.
