Free gasoline caps offered to Toledo area residents

7/14/2009

Motorists in Lucas and Wood counties will have the opportunity this month to receive free replacement gas caps if the ones on their vehicles are leaking or missing.

The Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments and the city of Toledo's division of environmental services will have gas-cap testing locations for drivers.

Leaking or missing gas caps add to air pollution and could cost a driver up to two tanks of a gas a year, the organizations said.

The compression test takes a few seconds to determine whether the cap is working properly. Most of those that are not can be replaced free on the spot.

The testing will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates but could be suspended if there is an Ozone Action Day:

•Tomorrow - BP/Barneys, 1455 South Byrne Rd.

•Thursday - BP/Barneys, 103 Anthony Wayne Trail, Waterville.

•Monday - Sunoco, 1855 Woodville Rd., Oregon.

•July 22 - BP/Barneys, 6989 Airport Hwy., Holland.

•July 23 - BP/Barneys, 3369 Navarre Ave., Oregon.

•July 27 - BP Barneys, 966 South Main St., Bowling Green.

•July 29 - BP/Barneys, 28311 Crossroads Pkwy., Rossford.

Testing also will be from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 8 during the Frogtown Fair at the Erie Street Market.
