Two men early Friday used a pickup to break into a North Toledo convenience store in an attempt to steal an ATM machine.

Officers responding to a burglary alarm about 5 a.m. arrived at a Stop N Go at 3504 Lagrange St. near East Manhattan Boulevard and found the front door smashed in and the ATM machine damaged.

The thugs were gone, police said.

Tom Irdi, co-owner of the store, said a store security camera shows two men taking down an electric meter, using a truck to knock down the front door and wall, and then hooking a chain to the ATM machine and trying to pull it out with the truck.

The men failed to remove the ATM machine, which was fastened to the floor, Mr. Irdi said.
