Ohio EPA fines Lowe s for substances in Findlay

7/27/2009

FINDLAY Lowe s Home Centers has agreed to pay the state of Ohio a $10,150 fine to settle a dispute over the way it has managed hazardous waste at the company s distribution center here.

Two Ohio Environmental Protection Agency inspections in 2008 found that hazardous wastes had been stored more than 180 days without a permit. The company also failed to have required emergency information posted by the telephone, the state agency said.

Wastes at the site include flammable and corrosive liquids, toxic organic liquids, and other toxic liquids in addition to waste such as fluorescent bulbs. No waste was believed to have been released.
