Repairs on I-75 bridge keep Segur Ave. closed

Repairs to the I-75 bridge over Segur Avenue in Toledo will keep Segur closed until sometime today, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced Monday.

Segur was closed on Saturday after several chunks of concrete fell from the freeway overpass. Theresa Pollick, a transportation department spokesman in Bowling Green, said the concrete fell from a part of the bridge that did not compromise its structural soundness.

State crews Monday cleared out other unstable concrete in the area from which the chunks fell, and will install a wooden framework beneath that area to catch anything else that might become loose, Ms. Pollick said.

The bridge over Segur was built in 1964 and was resurfaced during the 1980s. But the transportation department has no current plans to renovate it even though three neighboring bridges built at the same time, including the DiSalle over the Maumee River, are in the beginning stage of a $10.2 million redecking project.
