Konop provided security by sheriff after threats

The Lucas County sheriff's department provided security for county commissioner Ben Konop after he was threatened.

The office of Lucas County Commissioner Ben Konop was guarded by a sheriff s deputy Wednesday after he received several threats.

We have been getting repeated e-mails from an individual that have gone over the line, and we received one yesterday morning as well that was a concern, Mr. Konop said.

During a public meeting Tuesday, a man who apparently had a knife on his belt, told one of Mr. Konop s staffers that he intended to confront the commissioner.

After our public meeting was over, I went to the elevator and he met me there and it appeared he had a knife on his belt, Mr. Konop said.

He was yelling at me to the best of my recollection Why don t you go on WSPD.

Mr. Konop has refused to be interviewed by the AM radio station.

There is certainly room in the community for constructive debate and dialogue, he said.

But the way they operate, they are looking at one thing: profit. They have no concern about working people of Toledo and they are looking for what they can do to inflame listeners and drive their ratings up a point or two.

WSPD s program director and talk-show host Brian Wilson broadcast Mr. Konop s personal cell phone number during his program Tuesday.

As far as I know, he urged his listeners to call me and yell at me for to not going on his shows, Mr. Konop said.
