Perrysburg council asks for refuse levy s renewal

Perrysburg City Council agreed unanimously last night to ask voters in November to replace the city s 1-mill levy for refuse services.

The two-year levy, which was first approved in 1987, generates about $530,000 toward a $1.1 million budget for refuse and recycling services, said Jon Eckel, director of public service. The levy would cost the owner of a $150,000 home about $46 a year.

In addition to weekly, unlimited trash pickup, the city provides recycling containers, curbside co-mingled recycling pickup, a yard waste program, and other services, he said.

It s a good bargain for the citizens, Councilman John Kevern said.
