A 43-year-old man was robbed and assaulted while sitting on a riverside bench, according to Toledo police.

Duane Marshall said he was sitting at Water and Madison streets Sunday at about 10:35 p.m. when he was approached by two men dressed in dark clothing and carrying baseball bats. He said the men told him to give up his wallet and bag and that he was hit several times in the head and back with the bats after he asked that they not take his bag.

Police said Mr. Marshall had a cut on his head for which he was treated at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. No suspects have been identified.
