Shackled and wearing a jail jumpsuit, Clay Hausenfleck pleaded not guilty to drug charges yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Mr. Hausenfleck, 46, is charged with one count each of possession of marijuana, trafficking in marijuana, and illegal cultivation of marijuana in connection with plants found in his home. He was arrested Aug. 28 after Sylvania police went to his home on Williamsburg Drive, where he shot and killed an intruder.

If convicted on the drug charges, he faces up to 21 years in prison.

Mr. Hausenfleck called 911 just after 1 a.m. to report he had shot an intruder. Officers reported finding the body of Louis M. Mason, 28, of Toledo, who died of two gunshot wounds. They also reported finding more than 200 marijuana plants.

Mr. Hausenfleck remains in custody in lieu of $50,000 bond. Judge Stacy Cook set a Sept. 22 pretrial date. No charges have been filed in Mason's death.
