Monroe County hires new administrator

MONROE — Robert Brackenbury, a Michigan assistant attorney general, has been hired as Monroe County's new administrator and chief financial officer.

Mr. Brackenbury, 44, is a bond counsel and specialist in public finance who has worked on more than $4 billion in Michigan variable and fixed-rate debt issues ranging from general obligation to revenue bonds.

He has also acted as attorney for the State of Michigan Retirement System, which has $44 billion in pension money for public employees under management. He served 10 years as a senior financial administrator at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti.

Mr. Brackenbury works in Lansing and lives south of Ann Arbor in Washtenaw County's Pittsfield Township, where his wife, Mandy Grewal, is supervisor. They have two young sons.

He earned a law degree from Wayne State University and an MBA from the University of Michigan. Mr. Brackenbury also earned bachelor's and master's degrees in economics from Eastern Michigan University.

He and county officials have not negotiated a salary. His predecessor was paid $121,000.
