Road Warrior: 09-14

9/14/2009

The Blade's Road Warrior advises readers each Monday where the biggest driving headaches will be throughout the construction season. He'll tell you the locations to avoid and the detours to take.

Construction of a new U.S. 24 around Waterville so far has had no effect on existing U.S. 24, but that will change Monday.

Work to tie the future highway into the current one will begin this morning with construction of crossovers on the existing four-lane roadway that will allow all traffic to use the existing eastbound lanes during early phases of interchange construction east of Dutch Road.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane each way between I-475 and the two-lane roadway west of Dutch Road.

Expect sluggish traffic near the Dutch intersection, especially when trucks are present and stopped for red lights. River Road or Waterville-Monclova Road may be worth considering for local trips during peak hours.

In downtown Toledo, pavement repairs will require lane closings Monday and Tuesday on Washington Street between Michigan and 10th streets.

Motorists exiting southbound I-75 for downtown Toledo should take 11th to Monroe or Jefferson.

In Wood County, the northbound I-75 rest area near U.S. 6 is closed for pavement and sidewalk repair for two weeks, starting Monday.
