Toledo police release identity of dead bicyclist

Toledo police Monday released the name of a bicyclist who was struck and killed by a vehicle that fled the scene the day before in West Toledo.

Dustin St. John, of 2260 Upton Ave., was westbound in the middle lane in the 1900 block of Bancroft Street near Upton about 4 a.m. Sunday when he was struck by an unknown vehicle, Toledo police said.

A passerby found the man minutes later and called 911. The bicyclist, who was struck from behind, was pronounced dead at 4:20 a.m., according to the Lucas County Coroner's Office.

There was no word on arrests in the case Monday morning. The accident remains under investigation.

Vehicle hits, kills bicyclist in West Toledo

A man was riding a bicycle when he was struck and killed by a vehicle that fled the scene about 4 a.m. Sunday on West Bancroft Street near Upton Avenue.

The man, who was not identified Sunday night, was riding west in the 1900 block of Bancroft when he was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle, said Steve Kahle, an investigator for the Lucas County Coroner's Office. A passer-by found the man minutes later and called 911. The cyclist was pronounced dead at 4:20 a.m., Mr. Kahle said.

The man was not carrying photo identification with him at the time of the accident.
