A Weston bird and animal feed manufacturer is to receive a $20,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Development to assist in its $1.3 million expansion project.

The state Controlling Board yesterday approved the grant, which was part of more than $1.1 million in economic development funds awarded to help create 1,000 jobs and retain more than 1,500.

Vitakraft Sun Seed Inc. was awarded the grant to acquire machinery and equipment as well as to relocate. The project is expected to create 15 jobs and retain 84. Last year, the locally owned Sun Seed Co. merged with Vitakraft Pet Products of Germany.
