Pastor pleads for saving Dorr Street post office

The Midtown post office serves its community and should be spared, the pastor of a nearby church said during a news conference and rally yesterday outside the station at 1609 Dorr St. “To take this station out of our community would be devastating,” the Rev. Talmadge Thomas said.

The post office is one of 413 stations and branches under review for closure. Until Sept. 2, the Point Place branch was on a nationwide list of 677.

The list may be pared further, said Steve Katich, staff director in the Toledo office of U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D., Toledo). She plans to speak with the postmaster general this week about the Midtown station.

“We maintain that to close Midtown would have a significant impact on the redevelopment efforts ongoing [on Dorr],” Mr. Katich said.
